Ace of Fire and Ace of Wands

There is a cluster of eggs. A single snake has managed to break though its egg and it looks straight ahead. Behind it, are sparks shoot upward from a hidden fire. Because snake shed their skins it is seen as a symbol for change and transformation. What will this newly hatched snake discover? Time will tell. One thing is clear, though, it will shed its skin numerous times in the course of its life. The sparks represent creative, passionate, and empowering enthusiasm to take action. In a sense, this snake is all fired up and ready to explore!

In the Rider-Waite Smith model, the corresponding card is the Ace of Wands. This Tarot card shows a hand coming out of the clouds grasping a flowering wand. Below and on the left is castle on green hill. There are mountains in the distance. Winding from the left to the right of the image is stream surrounded by more green land. There are three trees in a scattered group. The hand’s grasp is tight and controlled, not loose or limp. That hand intends to use this wand to direct energy with a clear and definite purpose! Nothing and no one will stop the energy from achieving the wielder’s goals.

The Ace of Fire tells us to accept and embrace transformations, as they are a natural part of life. The Ace of Wands illustrates what can be achieved when intent and motivation are focused. Combined, the message of these two cards is: “Focus and transform your energy so that you can achieve great things using that passionate fire within!”

This month put that creative energy to good use! Start a new project, or finish that old one. It might be helping the local library acquire new materials, or volunteering to mentor a child in your area of expertise. Whatever you choose direct your energy outward with a definite purpose. Don’t let anything get in your way!

Ask yourself: What is my passion? What is my potential? How can I help others to uncover their passions? How am I letting my wants and desires control me? What do I want to conceive or bring forth? Where am I pointing or directing my wand and energy?
